I’m delighted to be invited to contribute to this mixed show. There’s a very particular attitude in choosing to live this far North. I can’t quite put it into words, perhaps that is what the work is about – a visual language shaped by island life, offering a different way of seeing the landscape and living in a northern climate.

Online Shop Update

Online Shop Update November 22nd 2025

I am currently restocking the virtual shelves in my online shop. Prior access is given to those on my mailing list and the shop will be fully open on the 22nd November.

Most of the works are small ones, cups, bowls, flasks in a range of textures. There will be a few larger pieces also available but many of my bigger pieces are with galleries. There’s more info about these on the Exhibiting Galleries page.

If you are buying from the USA please check the Shipping page for details before committing to a purchase. It’s all got a bit more complicated and expensive. There will be an extra 10% added upfront to cover the payment of the basic USA import duty.  This should speed the passage of your purchase through customs – but I’m not promising!

New Works at Beaux Arts Bath

Returning to one of my favourite galleries, Beaux Arts Bath, in the beautiful South West of England. I have been doing back to back firings to make work for this show. Wood firing, gas firing and three rounds of raku. There are some rich autumnal feeling Forest pieces, new Monolith lidded jars, timeless raku fired Erosion Bowls and Earth Jars. Look out on Instagram for some images of the work as I get time to post.

Beaux Arts Bath is a contemporary art gallery showing paintings, sculpture and ceramics. Founded in 1979, it is the longest established independent gallery in the city of Bath. It has a high reputation for showing the ceramics of UK and international artists working in clay.

I don’t think I will be able to be at the opening on the 14th sadly, having only just returned to Skye after giving a demonstration in Sussex. I hope you will enjoy the work none the less.

British Studio Pottery and the V&A

Studio pottery – ceramics made by independent artist-potters – emerged as a distinct art form in the 1910s and ’20s. This display explores the V&A’s collecting and exhibiting of studio pottery from the movement’s beginnings to the present day. I am hugely honoured to have examples of my work in this new hanging of work at the V & A.

In 2019 the museum chose to acquire these pieces through the Craft Potters Charitable Trust Emmanuel Cooper Prize.

‘On The Rocks’ at Contemporary Ceramics Centre

I couldn’t resist this title for my first solo show at the great Contemporary Ceramics Centre in London.

I am delighted, and a bit awed, to be showing work here, with its front window facing the British Museum where I spent so many hours of my student days. So much has changed since then, and so much remains the same. The rocks remain, clay is the same, our perceptions and attitudes develop hopefully for a better understanding. I’ll be toasting that at the opening with some Uisge Beatha agus bùrn-èirigh

Potfest by the Lake at Compton Verney 2025

20 – 22 June 2025

Potfest by the Lake is a flagship event in the Potfest calendar. It is a selected event showcasing the very best work from acclaimed UK and international ceramic artists. I am delighted to be showing here again, amongst old friends and meeting new ones. 

Compton Verney is an historic house and well established, award-winning arts venue, set in 120 acres of stunning ‘Capability’ Brown parkland. Located just fifteen minutes from both Stratford upon Avon and Royal Leamington Spa, and less than 30 minutes’ drive from Coventry.

Admission tickets will be available to buy at the gate each day or in advance online. Ticket price includes access to the beautiful grounds. Top up tickets for Compton Verney galleries and exhibitions will be available. Parking is free at the venue and with a free shuttle bus from the car park. Accessible parking is also available.

(Please be aware that a number of the exhibitors may be unable to process credit and debit card transactions so it is recommended to bring cash and/or a cheque book as an alternative, it all depends on the phone signal.)

York Ceramics Fair 2025

SATURDAY 15th & SUNDAY 16th MARCH 2025, YORK RACECOURSE, Knavesmire Road, York, YO23 1EX

I am already looking forward to returning to York for this event hosted by the Craft Potters Association. It’s a great chance to show our work directly to the public in the company of some of the best potters and ceramicists in the country.

Venue:  York Ceramics Fair 2025 will be hosted at the iconic York Racecourse for another year. This bright and open venue ensures ease of access and plenty of on-site parking for visitors.

Access: York Racecourse is a fully accessible venue. There will be Blue Badge parking just near the entrance through the Houghton Building where there is a ramp down to the main entrance.

Ticketing:  Tickets are issued for before 1pm and after 1pm. Once inside, you may stay as long as you like.

Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy Through Craft

What can I say? Delighted to be part of this exhibition!

Fife Contemporary are pleased to announce Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy through Craft, an upcoming exhibition challenging perceptions of women and craft open at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries from 8 March to 8 June 2025.

Provocatively titled but thoughtfully curated, Hag. will bring together the work of 13 of Scotland’s most inventive, creative and impactful women craft artists, including Lise Bech, Judith Davies, Caroline Dear, Claire Heminsley, Fiona Hutchison, Ruth Elizabeth Jones, Gilly Langton, Jo McDonald, Susie Redman, Patricia Shone, Carol Sinclair, Amanda Simmons and Emma Louise Wilson. Celebrating the knowledge, power & alchemy mediated by their work, the exhibition will celebrate craft skills and approaches to practice developed by these significant women over decades of work and personal endeavour.

The mastery of their own craft skills is what unites these 13 women. Visitors to this exhibition will see pieces brought together from around Scotland. They can expect to see contemporary approaches to constructing forms through tapestry, basket weaving, and work in paper and textile, as well as work formed through transformative material processes such as kiln-firing glass, hand forming clay, or enamelling and silversmithing. The relationship between artist and their close surroundings is also a theme, either as a source of inspiration, or more directly as a source for the materials themselves. 

Curated by Dunfermline-born educator, curator and producer, Kate Pickering, and taking linguistic cues from historical, derogatory language about women, Hag. connects contemporary prejudices about age, sex and gender to their historical precedents.
