25 Years of Making

The Scottish Gallery

I have been making pottery on the Isle of Skye for 25 years. I am so happy to be celebrating this very personal anniversary with a solo show of new work at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.  We will be publishing a small monograph of images, thoughts, reflections to accompany the show. I hope many of you will be able to join us at the Gallery.

Potfest by the Lake – at Compton Verney

This is  new show for me and a recent addition to the Potfest calendar. It’s a fabulous venue of an historic house and arts centre set in ‘Capability’ Brown parkland

Located just fifteen minutes from both Stratford upon Avon and Royal Leamington Spa, and less than 30 minutes’ drive from Coventry, Potfest by the Lake – Compton Verney is an exciting opportunity to visit an artisan ceramics market, showcasing the work of 90 of the UK’s finest ceramics makers.

Potfest admission tickets will be available to buy at the gate each day or in advance online. I will try to remember to post a link to that here as and when they go on sale. Ticket price includes access to the stunning grounds. Top up tickets for Compton Verney galleries and exhibitions will be available. Parking is free at the venue and there is a free shuttle bus from the car park. Accessible parking is also available.

(Please be aware that a number of the exhibitors may be unable to process credit and debit card transactions so it is recommended to bring cash and/or a cheque book as an alternative, it all depends on the phone signal.)

10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Solo Ceramics Show at Beaux Arts Bath

I am delighted to be showing my new work at Beaux Arts Bath. After a long slow year of making in 2022 I have managed to fire the kilns a few times to pull together this collection. I see the beginnings of new developments in the work but mainly I have been concentrating on refining my making and firing techniques.

Beaux Arts Bath is a contemporary art gallery showing paintings, sculpture and ceramics. Founded in 1979, it is the longest established independent gallery in the city of Bath. It has a high reputation for showing the ceramics of UK and international artists working in clay.

Opening event Saturday 25th February between 1 pm and 4pm. I’m looking forward to seeing you there if you can make it. I will be at the show for a couple of hours as it opens, before heading North again to Skye.
The show runs from 27th February – 23rd March 2023

Ceramic Art London 2022

After two years absence, the UK’s best ceramics show will return in 2022

Finally, Ceramic Art London returns in April 2022. Once again taking over the the vast central concourse of Central Saint Martins’ Grade 2 listed Victorian Granary building.

I am delighted and excited to be returning with my work to this terrific London event. It has been a long two years and although I am feeling some trepidation about venturing out again to the big city, I know it will be a joyful experience.  Please get in touch if you know you’re coming and would like to meet. Find me on the corner at Stand 20

Hosted by the Craft Potters Association, Ceramic Art London is an international ceramics art fair bringing together over 100 of the best ceramic artists working today. Showcasing contemporary developments in ceramic practice, in addition to the popular Claytalks programme. After two years of Covid cancellations and a sell-out show in 2019, I highly recommend getting your tickets well in advance, there are a lot of desperate enthusiasts out there!

Contemporary Raku

A joint exhibition to celebrate the publication of Contemporary Raku by renowned potter Stephen Murfitt. Contemporary Ceramics Centre in London is hosting this timely show which spans the spectrum of raku techniques. This exciting process has enthralled professionals and amateurs since it’s introduction to the West from Japan. I felt honoured to be asked to contribute and be given the chance to share my love of and interest in raku firing. It has lead me to many inspiring places in my work. The show also includes the work of Stephen Murfitt, David Roberts, Sebastian Blackie, Tim Andrews, Moyra Stewart, Kate Schuricht, Shaun Hall, Denise Brown, Peter Hayes and Bridget Johnson.

The show runs from 3rd – 26th March at the Contemporary Ceramics Centre, 63 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury London WC1B 3BF

Realising Form - Make Hauser & Wirth 09/04/2020 - 31/08/2020

Realising Form – Make Hauser & Wirth

‘Realising Form’ invites six makers from across the British Isles and Ireland. The artists share a rigorous and intuitive approach to unearthing objects and vessels, handcrafted in clay, iron, concrete, glass and Jesmonite. The online exhibition explores material possibilities from individual locations and attests to the maker’s personal methodology. The work demonstrates an expressive response to landscape and nature, architecture and the impact of human experience in the finished work.

Featured makers include: Malgorzata Bany (London, UK), Daniel Freyne (Clackmannan, Scotland), Harry Morgan (Manchester, UK), Nuala O’Donovan (Cork, Ireland), Sue Paraskeva (Isle of Wight, UK), Patricia Shone (Isle of Skye, Scotland).

Textures of the Land 04/01/2020 - 01/02/2020
10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Textures of the Land

Textures of the Land at The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh is my first major solo exhibition. I am delighted to be showing at this gallery again after a successful joint show in 2018.

Working from the Isle of Skye for the past 25 years I see my work as an expression of the journey towards understanding my place in life. I can’t separate it from my experience of living in this landscape or from the path that brought me here.
The exhibition will feature new work in the Erosion Series. It is a culmination of the development of my particular making methods and will include pieces from all three of the firing processes: raku, charcoal saggar and wood firing.

The show can be previewed online from the 19th December at

Textures of the Land takes place at The Scottish Gallery, 16 Dundas Street, Edinburgh from 4 January – 1 February 2020.
