Forest Floor Flask
A small hand made Forest Floor Flask with dark tenmoku glazed interior. Made with a high iron content clay and painted with porcelain slip before texturing and stretching. The exterior surface is left unglazed. It reminds me of the bark around the bases of old trees in the scrubby birch forests of West Scotland. This piece has been wood fired with local pine which has given it a rich toasted surface with areas of satin sheen where most exposed to the flame. The interior glaze is smooth and dark and holds water. The rim is uneven and distorted where the clay has broken open during the stretching process.
