Hill Erosion Jar
A hand made Hill Erosion Jar. Made with an iron bearing crank clay and with a dark, tenmoku glazed interior. The exterior surface has been left unglazed to make the most the course grain texture of the clay. This piece has been wood fired with local pine which has given it a rich, toasted surface with areas of satin sheen where most exposed to the flame. It was supported on 3 cockle shells in the firing which react with the fire to leave a halo of glaze. The interior is smooth and dark and holds water.
The base is slightly rounded so if you want to use as a vase it’s best to support it on a ring of cloth, which is also be a good idea to protect a fragile surface.
